Facts, speculations and rumors -Game Red Alert 3

The numerous rumors about RA3 have only increased since the release of the game. The following is an explanation of features appearing in Red Alert 3 which were taken of several resources such as the Red Alert 3 Gameplay Demo, the Red Alert 3 Hell March Trailer, EA's official Red Alert 3 site, and various magazines.


Story
After the Allied drove the Soviets back to Moscow, and with their defeat is nigh, the Soviets decide to send several hitmen back in time to kill Einstein, the single person they see responsible for the Allied superiority. Although Einstein is successfully assassinated, Europe remains in a state of peace. This is because the Second World War never occurs. However, the assassination of Einstein alters the timeline. This causes a third force to appear, Empire of the Rising Sun. The Empire of the Rising Sun have plans for world domination and they begin to press forward with their plans, taking advantage of their technological advancements.

Campaign
  • In Red Alert 3, the campaign will be able to played in a Co-op fashion. The other "player" will able to controlled by a friend via multiplayer or by the AI. If the AI choice is selected, its main goal will be to capture and defend strategic points. However, these points will vary from mission to mission. Also, you will be able to use the AI's structures for producing units. Unfortunately, the player will not be able to control the units of a teammate. This is because when developers tested such an idea, they deemed it too chaotic.
    Needless to say that you see the map-revealing progress of your ally. Both points count for AI-driven or human Co-op.
  • Before the beginning of each mission, the player will be able to choose one of three commanders. Although each faction has commanders, all commanders and their abilities will be unique The commander featured in many of the magazines was an Allied commander who can call in Air Strikes.
  • Although Yuri will not play a role in Red Alert 3, the writer of Red Alert 3 hinted that Yuri might make a return in the already planned expansion.
Maps

  • Although not visible on the screens, weapons are going to leave their marks on the environment. Be sure to look for massive craters after battles.
  • Amphibious ships/tanks can only land or leave shore from sandy beaches, so it will be crucial to capture and defend such areas
  • The maps of Red Alert 3 will be larger then their CNC3 counterparts.
  • The graphics are looking superior to those in CnC3. Even though the work on the graphics isn't finished, the animations and especially the water effects are stunning. The graphics are going to be very different from those in 'usual' games as they will have a cartoony style, which some people are partial to, while others have denounced it.
  • The maps of Red Alert 3 are suspected to have much more water than in any other game. Mostly due to the fact naval gameplay should be an important factor in the game.
Gameplay

  • Red Alert 3 will feature a slower pace then Command and Conquer 3 to lessen the impact of rushing and base crawling. The Soviets won't be able to instantly place their buildings after they are completed anymore, but will take some time to build while the scaffolding is visible. The Allied Forces are expected to have the old style intsa-pop mechanic, and the Empire may have yet another mechanic altogether.
  • Sea battles will be crucial in Red Alert 3 as the importance of naval gameplay will be exaggerated in Red Alert 3 a lot. This mainly results from of the fact that Red Alert 3 will feature the ability to build a base on water. All buildings except for the Barracks and the War Factory can now be built on the sea.
  • All units in Red Alert 3 will have secondary functions. For example, one of the Allied tanks will be able to focus its radar signals with other tanks to create an effective scouting unit. Even Ore Collectors are expected to have secondary abilities, which, used at the right time, can give the advantage to a player.
  • Most of the units in Red Alert 3 will be amphibious, such as the Bullfrog, the MCV (Mobile Construction Vehicle) and the Engineer.
  • The economy in Red Alert 3 will be totally different to the economy used in CnC3. In Red Alert 3 there are specific resource repositories scattered around the map, these buildings indicate the presence of ore. These Ore Nodes can then be mined by simply building a refinery, and letting the Ore Collector commute between the Ore Node and the Refinery, gathering resources. At the moment, only one Ore Collector at a time is able to harvest at one Ore Node, however, this could be subject to change.
  • The economy in Red Alert 3 will also be extended to the sea. There will be several Ore Nodes on the sea as well, which can be harvested much like the ones on land. Players who don't focus on the sea will have a huge economic disadvantage against players who also expand their territory to the sea.
  • Power will still be present in Red Alert 3.
  • All units will have their place in the combat chain. For example, air units will preferable when attacking well defended positions, but can be countered easily by anti-air units, such as the Bullfrog. The Bullfrog itself is weak against all types of ground and naval units.
  • Rather than having a free-form building system, buildings in Red Alert 3 will feature a grid system. The grid will be visible when a player tries to place a building. Buildings can be rotated in 90 degree conformations before placment though.
  • Terrain will have a bigger effect in Red Alert 3 than in other games. One example is that units on higer ground (eg on a hill) are not visible to units skirting below.
Misc
  • The Allied Prism technology will not return in Red Alert 3.
  • Chrono technology will be available for the Allied forces, with the Cyro-Copter being the only definite proponent of this technology. The fate of the Chrono Legionnaire is unknown at this moment.
  • Nuclear technology will not return in Red Alert 3.
  • There will be superweapons in Red Alert 3. In fact, every faction will have two of them. Already known are the Chronosphere and Particle Cannon for the Allies and the Iron Curtain and Vacuum Bomb for the Soviets.
  • Again there will be neutral buildings which can be captured by Engineers. The Observation Post has been revealed already, and Oil Derricks are expected to make a comeback. These will provide significant bonuses to the player who captures them.

Red Alert 3 Game Information

The desperate leadership of a doomed Soviet Union travels back in time to change history and restore the glory of Mother Russia. The time travel mission goes awry, creating an alternate timeline where technology has followed an entirely different evolution, a new superpower has been thrust on to the world stage, and World War III is raging. The Empire of the Rising Sun has risen in the East, making World War III a three-way struggle between the Soviets, the Allies, and the Empire with armies fielding wacky and wonderful weapons and technologies like Tesla coils, heavily armed War Blimps, teleportation, armored bears, intelligent dolphins, floating island fortresses, and transforming tanks. 


"It's been too long." said Chris Corry, Executive Producer at EALA. "Fans have been waiting for a new Red Alert game for seven years, and we’re working hard to ensure its well worth the wait. The team is staying true to the series' roots while adding new elements like a co-operatively played story-driven campaign, an astounding new faction that will shake-up the Red Alert universe as we know it, and units that will help make Red Alert 3 everything our fans have been waiting for."

Red Alert 3 will incorporate the best features of Red Alert 2, and will introduce a new faction, the Empire of the Rising Sun. Also, a new naval system was introduced, this naval system will be integral to the overall gameplay. The new single-player campaign will be co-op with either human friends or various AI partners. EA will also be carrying over "RTS as a Sport" support that was first introduced for C&C3: Tiberium Wars, such as the battlecast system and an internet TV show. Empire Build Order Guide - Empire of the Rising Sun

These Empire build orders should only be used against Allies and Soviets, and never in Empire mirrors. Empire mirrors need special builds and tactics, so if you want to learn how to play them read our Empire Mirror Strategy Guide.

Standard Empire Build Order

Effectiveness Vs. Experienced Players: Moderate - High
Effectiveness Vs. Newer Players: High

The reason this build order is called standard is because it will work decently against most strategies and you can easily adept to many situations. It gives you a great economy, scouting abilities and protection from early game harassment, in other words it gives you a nice balanced mix of all 3 key elements of the game.

Build Order


  1. Generator Core:
    • First build a Generator Core and deploy it as close to your Construction Yard as possible, so it finishes deploying as soon as possible, since you can't build Refinery Cores without it.
  2. Dojo Core #1:
    • Send it to the closer Oil Derrick and deploy it there.
    • Train a Burst Drone to scout your opponent, then train 2-3 Imperial Warriors and then one Engineer to capture the Oil.
  3. Dojo Core #2:
    • Send it to the same Oil Derrick where you sent the first Dojo Core, but don't deploy it. You have to use it to run over Dogs/Bears that are coming to scout and to prevent you from capturing the Oil. The Dojo Core with a combination of Imperial Warriors can stand against all early game harassment Allies and Soviets can through at you.
  4. Generator Core:
    • Deploy this Generator Core to one of the corners of the map, so the opponent doesn't see it. The Generator Core should finish deployment just before the Mecha Bay finishes deploying, so you shouldn't be in a low power mode. This could be useful in close ending games where both opponents start destroying each others structures, so whoever destroys them all faster, wins. If your Instant Generator is not in your base, it will be much hard to destroy it.
  5. Refinery Core #1:
    • Before the Refinery Core comes out of the Construction Yard place a rally point (left-click your Construction Yard and then right-click at the Refinery spot) there, so that your Refinery does not stop for a moment after coming out of the MCV.
      Rally Points for Nano Cores
      You should be placing rally points for every Nano Core. This will save you some valuable time you need early game.
    • Don't forget to wall your Refineries. You could start with the walling before you even start constructing them, since the Construction Yard gives you a build radius. Don't forget that the core needs to get to the Ore Node on foot, so don't wall the side closer to the Construction Yard.
  6. Refinery Core #2:
    • Second Refinery is for a strong early economy.
    • And again, don't forget to wall Refineries.
  7. Mecha Bay:
    • When you build both Refinery Cores, undeploy your Construction Yard and move the MCV near the Refinery that is closer to your opponent and deploy it. You should deploy your MCV before the first Refinery finishes constructing. Than build a Mecha Bay near one side of your Refinery, so this way it's closer to your opponent and your Ore Collector can be repaired by the drones on the Mecha Bay.
After this, you have two options, you could build a few Tengus and start harassing your opponent, or start upgrading your Mecha Bay and go directly to Tier 2 for Striker VXs and Tsunami Tanks. Everything after that is situational and you have to adept to your opponent. After you upgrade your Mecha Bay to Tier 2 you should expand to one more Ore Node.

Game Twilight Imperium: Strategy Guide

Twilight Imperium is the core game of Fantasy Flight Games, revised twice and being an all-time favorite of players with a large internet community and lively PBeM-scene. Nothing is more unsatisfying than having to stop a game right in the middle because one player doesn’t want to play on anymore.

That said, play at every opportunity you have. Twilight Imperium is a really great game, easily one of the best empire building games there is, maybe even the prime of its class. But be advised: the expansion “Shattered Empire” is highly recommended for play, because the vanilla game has some serious flaws (like the overpowered fighters or the very imbalanced strategy cards) that needn’t spoil your game experience. TI3 is also very forgiving about houserules, of which I’ll recommend several. This topic gets addressed at appropriate points and at the end of this guide.
A last word on theme: unlike normal board games, especially euro games, TI3 features are a well-written background and very thematic rules that fit in quite nicely. It is rewarding to read the backstories and to delve a bit into the theme, because all the races and many rules are designed after the background, and if you know a certain background for a certain race, you will soon recognize that a certain play style goes with it. That might greatly influence your choosing of a race.

How to save your progress in the Clash of Clans

A rhetorical gauntlet was thrown into geek culture last week when Simon Pegg denounced the ascendancy of science fiction fantasy among mainstream consumers: “Nerd culture is the product of a late capitalist conspiracy, designed to infantalize the consumer as a means of non-aggressive control.” Though Pegg himself subsequently “walked back” his comments in a recent Blog post, the provocation has already rippled through the message boards and Twitter feeds of “Otaku” social media, stimulating and inciting arguments about the merits (and admitted flaws) of the surplus films, television shows and even board games associated with science fiction fantasy. Criticism of “mainstream” science fiction fantasy by no means originated with Simon Pegg. In its own assessment of the 2009 Star Trek reboot, Red Letter Media asserted the recent explosion of reboots, sequels and adaptations heavily derives from market trends. The sheer volume of new films and television shows available to consumers necessitates gravitating towards product recognition, even if the translation of the intellectual property bears little resemblance to its source material.
So what does this have to do with board games?
It is nigh incontestable that geek culture in general and board games in particular have enjoyed an unprecedented zenith in the last several decades. Films, television shows and even theme parks now cater to what was once an isolated and often maligned co-culture. At once, legitimizing geek culture has also rendered its survival increasingly reliant upon intellectual properties that appeal to larger demographics.

This observation can clearly be seen in the market trends concerning contemporary board game design. Several decades ago, board game enthusiasts rarely offered shrift to intellectual properties associated with well-known film and television series. How could one compare, (for example) the Lord of the Rings Adventure Game with more challenging titles like Swords and Sorcery from the same era? The former bears only superficial resemblance to its source material and seems to condescend rather than celebrate the translation of Tolkien’s narrative into strategy gaming. Today, industry leaders like Reiner Knizia are regularly commissioned to adapt properties like The Hobbit into viable, stimulating board and card games that appeal to an array of audiences.
But even welcome trends bear a cost. Venerable voices inside and outside the board game industry will needs must strike a balance between mainstream acceptance and innovation to maintain the hobby’s quality control. Increasingly, intellectual properties have become not only the norm but precedent for financial success. Intellectual properties easily recognized by consumers add security to projects not otherwise acquired through conventional means – design, layout, positive criticism. In the past several months, Rollin’ Dice has already lamented the (over) saturation of Kickstarter with titles that seem bent towards capturing nostalgia rather than generating interest on their own design merits. Indeed, the most backed Kickstarter of all time both affirms the popularity
of board games and cements their reliance on antecedent products.
This does not presume that intellectual property based titles should be rendered suspect by shrewd board game consumers. On the contrary, many tie-in projects have found both commercial and critical success among aficionados and amateurs. As I type this article, many well-known intellectual properties – Star Wars, DC Comics, Lord of the Rings – fill the ranks of Boardgame Geek’s “Hotness.” What would the current miniature landscape be without pre-painted product lines like Heroclix and Star Wars Armada? Would Hasbro have ever “pulled the trigger” on Heroscape if not for the early success of Star Wars: Epic Duels?

Temperance, not abstinence, proves the watchword. Wise voices within the greater board game community must continue to permit intellectual properties to populate its front lines while still allowing innovative designs to elevate hobby standards. Even the most self-righteous film buff can accept video game summer blockbuster adaptions so long as the industry still opens the door for the occasional District 9 or Mad Max: Fury Road. Likewise, leaders within the board game industry should accept and even embrace intellectual property titles that draw new enthusiasts and faithfully adapt the energy of their antecedents. The trick derives from also finding space within an admittedly boutique industry for independent designers to carve out their own niche.

The New Yorker recently published an inspirational profile of Klaus Teuber, designer of the groundbreaking title, Settlers of Catan. The article recounts the hours Teuber spent in his basement workshop, escaping the drudgery of the workaday world by developing a game now synonymous with the hobby’s renaissance. Even now, Teuber evades comparisons between his own contribution to board game design and more propagated titles like Monopoly. His innovation is matched only by his modesty and abiding love for the board game hobby. At the risk of being accused of alarmist rhetoric, one wonders whether designers like Teuber will find easy inroads in an industry that has become increasingly less reliant on elegant mechanics and more dependent on instantaneous product recognition.
